Prenatal & Pediatric Work

Benefits to the mother:
The focus of prenatal treatments is alignment & mobility of the spine and pelvis, comfort for the mother, and in later stages prep for the birthing process.  Attention to proper alignment and range of motion through the spine and pelvis will allow for a more comfortable pregnancy and easier (and sometimes quicker) birth.  While some of the modalities cannot be done with pregnant patients, such as some visceral work, there's still lots to work with, and there is great benefit to receiving treatments.  Expectant mothers are welcome in all stages of pregnancy, and even post birth to assist in healing.

What I can offer babies & children:
Pediatric osteopathy can prevent progressive, future or more serious structural dysfunctions, and can help to work through physical birth trauma effects in the child, such as may occur from forceps or vacuum delivery, if baby is in the birth canal for a long period of time, or even C-section births.  Treatments can be useful for things like colic, torticollis, jaundice, reflux, constipation, plagiocephaly (an asymmetric skull), thoracic injury or breathing difficulties, neurological problems, and frequent fussiness which may not have a clear explanation.   Treatment may involve craniosacral work, visceral work, neural manipulation or all of these.

Older children can have similar reasons for treatment and it can also can be useful for easing growing pains, postural concerns, some behavioral and learning disabilities and much more!

A very important and primary goal is for the child to feel safe and connected.  Consent is very important, and if the child does not give their consent (verbal or otherwise) I will not force the treatment.  This is important to developing a healthy therapeutic relationship with any health professional.

Our children had suffered from growing pains since they were very little.  They were so painful, they would wake up crying.  Since seeing Jenna, they very rarely have growing pains.  She also helped our oldest child who had a sore neck and back.  He’s feeling better and also learned some better stretches from her to do instead of cracking it all the time.  The biggest help was for overnight bedwetting.  Our child was well beyond the age most kids stop wetting the bed.  Shortly after having Jenna work on his bladder area (I didn’t even know this was possible), he stopped and never wet the bed since!” T.E.

“I was shocked to find an RMT with extensive training in cranial and visceral therapy here in Kamloops. Jenna’s techniques are gentle and precise, and my baby and I felt completely safe in her care. She has been a great help to us both. Thank you, Jenna!” S.V., ND

"Jenna worked on our 3 year old son who has struggled with his speech, in particular, oral/motor function.  Jenna was able to detect facial/oral structures that were compromised and was able to successfully work on our son by making it a fun process, not an easy feat with a 3 year old!  We noticed immediate gains in his speech development after his first session with Jenna.  I would highly recommend Jenna and her work to any parent with a toddler struggling with speech development." These pictures are of an adjustable inflatable table topper that is specific to maternity work.  The large hole in the center is where the belly goes, and there is also a trough-like hole for the breasts, and a face hole complete with side air holes for easy breathing.  Using this allows you to lay face down, which I understand is quite a nice treat when you haven't had the option for a while!  Its also a treat for me, because it allows me to work with your spine and pelvis in a much easier (and more effective) way.
